Coyote 65s Win Gold

The Lincoln Hills Coyotes 65s won the gold medal in the recently completed softball competition at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. The Coyotes won seven consecutive seeding and championship bracket games against teams from Ontario (Canada), Alberta (Canada), Michigan, Oregon, New Mexico and California.

The Coyotes were led by the outstanding pitching of Rich Daniels and Randy Wilcox, superb defensive play by Rich Huskey, George Bungarz and Barry Cunningham and the hitting of Jim Mikaelson (.826 with 20 rbi’s), Rich Daniels (773), Ron Greeno(.731 with 16 runs scored), Pete Savoia(.727), Randy Wilcox(.727), Mike Bunyard(.722), John Parks(.706) and John Wible(.831 with 16 rbi’s). They hit.700 as a team.

The Coyotes finished the season with seven tournament wins in the eleven tournaments in which they played. They also had two seconds, one third and one fourth. Their overall record was 45 wins and 14 losses.

Coyote 65s win SSUSA Cal Cup and NCSSA Hall of Fame Tournaments

The Lincoln Hills Coyotes 65s defended their Senior Softball Cal Cup Championship by winning five and losing one in Woodland August 11-13. They lost their first game, then won five straight to win the championship. They were led in hitting by Rich Huskey (.778), Ron Greeno (.773) and Al Parsons (.737). Jim Mikaelson had four home runs and 14 runs batted in. Rich Huskey, Bob Smith and Mike Bunyard also had home runs for the Coyotes.

Also during August (20th and 21st), the Coyote 65s won four and lost one to defend their Northern California Senior Softball Association Hall of Fame Tournament Championship. They were led in hitting by Jim Mikaelson (.850) and John Habein (.706). Mikaelson had the blast of the week when he hit a home run completely out of Fenway Park at the Big League Dreams Complex in Manteca.

In both tournaments the Coyotes continued to play outstanding defense with excellent pitching by Rich Daniels and Randy Wilcox. The Coyote 65s have now won five tournaments in a row and six for the year. Their tournament record to date is 36 wins and 12 losses. They play next in Medford Oregon before going to St. George, Utah for the Huntsman World Senior Games in October.                

Coyote 65s Win at Penn Valley and Folsom

The Coyote 65s won their bracket in the Nor Cal tournament at Penn Valley on July 18-19 with a 4 win and 1 loss record. The top hitters for the Coyotes were Jim Mikaelson (.788), Mike Bunyard (.788) and Al Parsons (.706).

The Coyote 65s also won the Nor Cal tournament at Folsom on August 1-2 with 4 wins and 1 loss. The top hitters for the Coyotes were Mike Bunyard (.875 – 1 HR), George Bungarz  (.867), John Wible (.867 - 14 RBI) and Jim Mikaelson (.824 -1 HR and 14 RBI).

The Coyote 65s have played seven tournaments this year, winning four and finishing second twice. Their overall tournament record is 27 wins and 10 losses. The top hitters for the seven tournaments are Jim Mikaelson at .730 (1,418 SLG %), John Wible at .717 (1,050 SLG %), Mike Bunyard at .705 (1,205 SLG %), George Bungarz at .755 and John Habein at .711.

Although they are a good hitting team, it is their team speed, all around solid defense and excellent pitching that have made invaluable contributions to their overall team success this year.

They play August 11-13 in Woodland in Senior Softball’s California Cup and August 19-21 in Manteca in Nor Cal’s Senior Softball’s Hall of Fame Tournament. They are the defending champions in their division in both of these tournaments.


Coyote 65s Win Invitational

The Lincoln Hills Coyotes 65s won four out of five games to win the annual Coyote Invitational Tournament on June 27-28 at Del Webb Field featuring teams from Greater Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. The Coyotes won with excellent pitching, solid defense and timely hitting. They were led by Jim Mikaelson’s two home runs and solid hitting from Pete Savoia (.786), Rich Daniels (.750) and Barry Cunningham (.733). Mike Bunyard threw two runners out at home from left center field in the championship game highlighting the team’s defensive play throughout the tournament.
The Coyote 65s next tournament is July 18th and 19th in Penn Valley.



Coyote 65s Second at Penn Valley

The Lincoln Hills Coyotes 65s took second place is Penn Valley last weekend with a three win - two loss record. Second place was decided by a head-to-head tie-breaker. The 65s pounded out 37 extra base hits including 12 home runs in five games. Home runs were hit by Mike Bunyard (5), Jim Mikaelson (3), Rich Daniels (2), Al Parsons and John Wible. The 65s next host the Coyote Invitational on June 27-28 with teams from the San Francisco Bay Area and Greater Sacramento.

 

Coyote 65s Second at Reno

The Lincoln Hills Coyotes 65s took second place in the recent nine team Rock N Reno Challenge held in Reno, NV. The 65s beat teams from Southern California, Oregon, Utah and New Mexico before losing to a team from Portland, OR/ Vancouver, WA in the Championship game. The Coyotes were led in hitting by Jim Mikaelson, Ron Greeno, Al Parsons and Mike Bunyard. Their defensive play was consistently outstanding throughout the tournament. You can see the Coyote 65s play June 27-28 in the Coyote Invitational when they host five teams from Northern California at Del Webb Field.
