1. Call to Order
J. R.
Jackson, President, called the meeting to order at 3:02 pm. Board members present in addition to J. R.
Jackson were: Vince Del Pozzo, Chris Berney, Barry Kendrigan, Montie Boatwright, Bruce
Briggs, and John Bush.
- A total of 52 members attended the meeting, which are 12 below the required quorum of
64. A copy of the attendance sheet
is attached to the file copy of the minutes.
- J.R. asked for approval of the August 5,
2008 minutes, which were approved unanimously.

and seconded to approve the financial report.
Unanimously approved.
A copy of
the Income/Expense Report and Register Report are included as attachment #2.
- T-Shirts will be sold at the play-off
and championship games.
- Sunday workouts will continue through
the end of September (except for this weekend due to Sun Eagles
tournament). Starting the first
Sunday of October the time will change from 10 am to noon.
- Club Expo will be on September 26 and
our club will be participating at the event.
- Brad Schall made a presentation
regarding the Sun Eagles tournament this weekend. Support the Sun Eagles by attending the
games and buying drawing tickets.
- Schedule for games the last week of the
league are on Wednesday and Friday.
Play-Offs,
Field Conditions, Hot Dog Days – John Bush
- Playoffs: Double elimination to determine the
divisional champs.
- Championship game will be one game only
on September 22 at 10 am.
- In the event of a tie we’ll use the
international tiebreaker procedure.
- Playoff schedule will be posted on the
web site after Friday’s games.
- All-Stars: the 2 managers of the divisional
winners will manage the All-Stars.
- Scoreboard: the order was “lost” by the
company. The scoreboard has been
reordered and should be installed in mid-October.
- Outfield Turf: maintenance had a “guru” evaluate the
turf, and he stated that it is in excellent shape for the amount of
play. Maintenance is dealing with
fungus and Bermuda.
- Infield:
during the “rest” time between September 22 and October 13 the
maintenance crew will be disking the field, leveling, and re-rolling it.
- Preventive maintenance will be ongoing
during the next few months. Some of
the fascia may need minor repairs and the shade structure will be
painted. Sprinklers will be fixed
and adjusted.
- League standings as of August 27 are on
the website.
- Hot Dog Days:
- September 8 – soda & water
- September 10 and 12: hot dogs
- September 19: Umpqua Bank
will provide free ice cream
- September 22: coffee and donuts
Sponsors,
Scorers – Bruce Briggs
- Tracking three potential new
sponsors. Several current
promotional sponsors may not be able to continue in the future.
- Many thanks to the scorekeepers who
volunteered extra hours to work in the score booth.
Banquet,
Wellness, Winter Draft & Rating Committee – Montie Boatwright
- Wellness
- Good to see Jack Kelly at our meeting
after having surgery for a pacemaker.
- Pete Savoia’s wife fell and broke her
wrist.
- Gail Hurlbut, Dale’s wife, had a mild
stroke and is at home.
- Ron Rodda’s wife had major surgery.
You are in
our thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
- Banquet:
Monday, September 22 after All-Star games.
- Entertainment: Special events will include a comedian,
great dinner, and George Bungarz’s band.
- The Association will not allow us to
enter the banquet room until 5:50 pm.
- Committee completed comprehensive
ratings of league players.
- 154 people have committed to playing
winter ball. As of current date,
plan on 10 teams (15 or 16 players per team with 11 in the field). If additional members sign up for winter
league, the Board may increase the number of teams.
- Managers for winter league: Thanks to Dave
Alley, Dick Malling, John Habein, Dave Ramm, Stan Young, Nick Eterovich,
Roland Cavin, Dar Gallaway, Ron Greeno, and Ron Swenson.
All -Star
Teams – Vince

- Vince made comments regarding Board.
- All-Star players selected by the
teams. Games will be on September
22 starting at 8:30 am. Each game will be 9 innings with 16 players
on each team.

Old
Business
- Pete Savoia gave an updated report on
the synthetic turf. Pete stated
that the committee is getting estimates from a couple of vendors ranging
from $100,000 to $150,000.
- Negative factor: teams that have played on the synthetic
turf stated that heat would be an issue.
- Member stated the league might have to
be responsible for 75% of the cost.
4. New Business
·
Member asked a question regarding draft for the summer league and
suggested that a committee review both draft systems and ask for a vote in
January or February. Montie said the
Board would take that suggestion into consideration.

Question regarding taking down and putting up the shade screens each
season (cost approximately $700 a year).
5. Open Forum
·
Stan Young thanked his field “crew” John French, Jim Wyatt, Frank
Castellano, Bob Kelly, and Don Massey.
Fantastic job guys!
·
Fishing Derby for kids 12 and under.
The group needs mentors, and Stan Young asking for 4 or 5 guys on
September 20 starting at 9:00 am for a half day. Get a free breakfast and help a kid catch a
fish!
