Candidate Presentations and Vote, Synthetic Turf Presentation – J.R. Jackson
- Election of new Board members, and we
have five candidates for four positions.
Candidates will make presentations followed by a ballot. Four individuals will tally the votes and
make an announcement at the end of the meeting.
- Dar Gallaway, Mike Hilton, Marty Rubin,
Steve Russo, and Stan Young made short presentations.
- J.R. Jackson and John Bush visited the
field in Loomis and were impressed with the synthetic turf.
- Pete Savoia and committee (George
Bungarz, Randy Wilcox, Jim Jones, Jim Berry, and Bob Zielinski) have been
gathering information from vendors and narrowed it to 5 companies.
- Pete shared “safer than natural
turf…serious injuries less severe…benefits astounding…get rid of dust and
eliminate dragging of field…lines permanent…down side is that it is hot
and the cost…dig out 10” dirt, install drainage and then crushed rock
with turf on top…whole infield and batters box synthetic…the real
challenge is to get this thing approved through CAM because it is going
to cost some money…need approval of league and have to put up at least
50%...our strategy is safety first…have to put our money where our mouth
is…the next three Friday mornings during August at 9:00 am going to meet at the Del
Webb field and carpool to visit Loomis field… take your glove, bat some
balls, and run on it...have flyers giving directions and you can visit on
your own… Franklin Elementary School on Blair Road in Loomis…approval
by CAM & Sports Advisory committee…big hurdle is the finance
committee…shooting for 2010 budget…preliminary costs $100,000 to
$160,000…may be a combination of increased dues and fund raising
events…phase one is to continue to visit fields…phase two is to talk to
people who purchased it…”
- Thanks to committee for all of their
work.
