LHSSL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

3:00 PM – Kilaga Presentation Hall

1. Call to Order

J. R. Jackson, President, called the meeting to order at 3:13 pm. Board members present in addition to J. R. Jackson were: Vince Del Pozzo, Chris Berney, Barry Kendrigan, Montie Boatwright, and Bruce Briggs.

• A total of 66 members attended the meeting, which is one above the required quorum of 65. A copy of the attendance sheet is attached to the file copy of the minutes.
• J.R. asked for approval of the May minutes, which were approved unanimously.

3. Board Committee Reports

Board Positions, Home Plate, Field Lights – J.R. Jackson

• J.R. requesting that members volunteer for Board positions. Please give your name to Vince Del Pozzo or Bruce Briggs.
• Home Plate: plate size has been expanded per membership request. A temporary one-piece plate has been installed and a permanent plate will be in place at a later date.
• City of Lincoln – city forming a Thursday softball league. Flyers available to members.
• Field Lights: survey was distributed to team members and 80% in favor of proposal for field lights.
• Comments regarding lack of information on the survey form, playing 3 days a week, obtaining estimates on artificial turf, number of games under the lights, etc.
• Recycle Day: Wednesday, August 2

Financial Report, Sunday Practice – Barry Kendrigan

Opening Balance as of 4/30/08 $22,133.36

Income: $ 1,114.31

Expenses: $ 4,510.90

Balance 5/31/08 $18,736.77

Motion made and seconded to approve the financial report. Unanimously approved.

A copy of the Income/Expense Report and Register Report are included as attachment #2.

• Sunday Practice: Sunday workouts are now 8 to 10 am.

Scorekeepers, Sponsors – Bruce Briggs

• Scorekeepers have been very cooperative.
• Working on a couple of new sponsors.

Wellness, 4^th of July Games – Montie Boatwright

• Best wishes to Bill Rexrode and Dale Hendren. Our thoughts are with Bill and Dale, and we wish them a speedy recovery.
• July 4^th games:

3. 8:30 am -- Classics vs. Sun Eagles

4. 10:00 am --70’s vs. 65’s Coyotes

5. 11:30 am -- 55’s vs. 60’s Coyotes

6. 1:00 pm -- City of Lincoln

Candidates for the Board, Selection of 4^th of July Players – Vince Del Pozzo

• July 4^th Game Players: Managers and Board members play in the game vs. the City of Lincoln. If a manager is playing in a previous game or would not be available to play, they can select a team member to play on that date.
• Instructional League: Thursdays from 2 to 4 pm.
• Board Candidates: If interested, please contact Vince or Bruce.

3. New Business

· Golf tournament: Tuesday, July 8 - $46. Paul Krow will distribute flyers at a later date.

· 5^th Annual Coyotes 70’s Invitational Tournament will be held on June 28 & 29.

· Update on scoreboard: “in the works.” Planning a dedication ceremony for the new scoreboard including games, hot dogs, and presentation of additional scholarships.

3. Open Forum

· Question regarding 55-minute games. Clarification: warning notification to umpires at 55 minutes.

· Member requesting a survey to membership regarding opinion on 7 inning games.

· Comment regarding teams taking too long getting off and on the field and need to get batters to on-deck circle to speed up play.

· Suggestion to have substitute runners coach first base.

· Suggestion to have games 3 days a week.

· Motion made and seconded that the Board investigate getting more playing time for the recreation league on the field besides Monday & Wednesday.
