LHSSL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

3:00 PM - Orchard Creek

1. Call to Order

J. R. Jackson, President, called the meeting to order at 3:08 pm. Board members present in addition to J. R. Jackson were: Montie Boatwright, Chris Berney, Barry Kendrigan, Vince Del Pozzo, John Bush, and Bruce Briggs.

• A total of 112 members attended the meeting, which are 57 above the required quorum. A copy of the attendance sheet is attached to the file copy of the minutes.
• J.R. asked for approval of the November minutes, which were approved unanimously.
• Welcome to our new members: Jim Hogan, Chuck Robertson, Jack Knight, Bob Boobar, Fred Garrison, and Jack Kelly.

3. Board Committee Reports

• Miguel Cavas reminded our members to vote for the Lincoln Hills Board of Directors by Tuesday, February 19.
• Softball fitness class: Jim Mikaelsen offered a presentation and handouts for a preseason conditioning class. The primary goal of the class is to minimize softball pain and injuries. Participants should expect a progressive low impact aerobic type class with music.

· Starting on Monday, March 10 the class will run for 10 sessions at Kilaga Springs in the fitness room.

· Mondays at 4:00 pm and Wednesdays at 4:30 pm and a 2^nd session Mondays at 5:00 pm & Wednesdays at 5:30 pm.

• League donated $100 to the Super Seniors for a holiday luncheon.

· Pitcher’s screen: J.R. asked players to consider a screen for pitchers. Members shared comments. Item will be included on the next agenda.

Financial Report, Sunday Practice – Barry Kendrigan

Opening Balance as of 12/31/07 $ 8,012.13

Income: $10,035.00

Expenses: $ 110.22

Balance 01/31/08 $17,936.91

Motion made and seconded to approve the financial report. Unanimously approved.

A copy of the Income/Expense Report and Register Report are included as attachment #2.

• Request for audit team: thanks to the 3 members who volunteered to serve on the audit team: Mike Hilton, Jim Hunter, and Chuck Robertson.
• Sunday Practice: Sunday workouts will start February 17 – 10 am to noon.

Applications, Fees for Travel Only Players & Non- Playing Managers, Instructional Clinic - Chris Berney

• As of February 11, 206 members have joined the league with 186 playing members.
• The $55 fee will apply to all travel only players and non-playing managers.
• Thanks to John Moran for starting the instructional clinic on Thursday, February 28 from 2:00-4:00 pm.
• Next general meeting will be the 2^nd Tuesday in March (March 11) due to a scheduling conflict in the activities office.

Summer Schedule, Scoreboard Operators – Bruce Briggs

• League summer schedule is on the website. Opening day is Saturday, April 26.
• 32 play dates - not playing on Memorial Day, Labor Day & on the last Wednesday of each month allowing for field maintenance & “bodies to rest.”
• 5 days for play-offs starting September 8 and one day for championship game on September 19. All-star games and banquet will be on September 22.
• Some changes will be made to the process for assigning scoreboard operators.
• Lost our third sponsor. “It is tough out there” for securing league sponsors.

Opening Day, Wellness – Montie Boatwright

Our positive thoughts and good wishes for Howard Liebgold, Carlos Zavala , Mike Bunyard, Jim Sandin, and Ross Pelton.

Opening Day:

• Thanks to Stan Young and Ross Pelton for again volunteering to help with Opening Day.
• Thanks to Sandy Datzman for again coordinating the bake sale.
• Thanks to Dennis Ratay for again taking pictures.
• Thanks to George Bungarz and his group for singing at Opening Day.

Try-Outs for New Members, Managers, Draft, One Day a Week Players – Vince Del Pozzo

• Try-outs for new players will be on Monday, February 18 at 10:30 am at the softball field.
• 19 players have applied as managers. A committee will meet to select managers.
• The draft will be held on Wednesday, February 27 starting at 8:30 am in the multi-media room at OC.
• One day a week players: Motion made and approved unanimously that the managers will decide on the “one day” players.

Field, Rules Committee, AED Certification, Full Count vs. 1 & 1 – John Bush

• During the wind storm the fence had damage. It has been straightend and additional work will be done at a later date.
• 10 people have had AED training and 5 will be trained Friday, February 15.
• Rules committee met in December and discussed several issues.

o Playing rules tabled.

o Can player rules will not change.

o Committee recommended elimination of 1 vs. 1 count: Motion made and approved (95 yes votes – 17 no votes) to have a full count for the summer league. Game time will remain at 60 minutes with a 5 minute warning prior to the end of the game. The home plate umpire will determine if the next inning should start or game is concluded at 60 minutes.

· Stan Young gave information regarding maintenance & preparation of field. The “crew” of 6 guys arrive 1 ½ hours before the first game. Many thanks to John French, Bob Kelly, Larry McMaster, Don Massey, Jim Wyatt, and Stan.

· City of Lincoln recreation is starting a new “senior” softball league (50 & over) on Tuesday nights starting March 25. John Habein had brochures for interested members.

Next general meeting: Tuesday, March 11, 2008 -- 3:00 pm - Heights & Gables Room at Orchard Creek Lodge.
