LHSSL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

1. Call to Order

Bob Fernandez, President, called the meeting to order at 3:07 pm. Board members present in addition to Bob Fernandez were: Montie Boatwright, J.R. Jackson, Chris Berney, Barry Kendrigan, Joe Spinali, Vince Del Pozzo, and Stan Young, deputy commissioner.

• A total of 70 members attended the meeting, which is one above the required quorum. A copy of the attendance sheet is attached to the file copy of the minutes.
• Bob asked for approval of the August minutes, which were approved unanimously.
• Welcome to our new player, Jim Arnold.

2. Board Committee Reports

Financial Report, Sunday Practice – Barry Kendrigan

Opening Balance as of 7/31/07 $13,159.76

Income: $ 751.00

Expenses: $ 3,038.84

Balance 8/28/07 $10,871.92

Motion made and seconded to approve the financial report. Unanimously approved.

A copy of the Income/Expense Report and Register Report are included as attachment #2.

Sunday Practice: workouts will continue until January.

Group Expo: Friday, September 28 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at OC. We would like players and umpires representing our group at the Expo.

Board Responsibilities, Softball Survey - Chris Berney

• After final revisions are completed in October the Board chart of duties will be emailed to the general membership, put on the website, and posted at the field.
• At the last league game softball surveys will be distributed to each team member. Please return the form the same day in a box located behind home plate.

All Star Games, Full Count for Winter League, Waiver Wire – Vince Del Pozzo

• Winter League: Draft is on Wednesday, October 3 and league starts Monday, October 15. The winter league will use a full count.
• We need managers for the winter league. Please give your name to Chris or Vince.
• Waiver Wire: Vince asked for comments from the general membership about eliminating waiver wire.
• All Star Games: Players have been selected. Hot dogs, free ice cream, announcers, and music at the games.
• Ron Miller & Steve Russo: coaches for “A” group
• John Gho & Mike Bunyard: coaches for “B” group.
• John Wilhelm & Ross Pelton: coaches for 70’s group.

Wellness, Banquet, Umpire and Managers Meeting– Montie Boatwright

Wellness: Hurrah, everyone healthy!

Banquet:

• The banquet will be Monday, September 24 staring at 5:00 pm. No host bar and dinner served at 6:00 pm.
• Next week extra tickets will be available to non-league players.

Umpire and Managers Meeting: On Friday, September 7 umpires will meet at 8:00 am & managers at 9:00 am.

Commend Nick Mastrella, head umpire, for a great job organizing the umpires.

Field Maintenance, Closure of Field, All Stars – J.R. Jackson

• Chris, maintenance, requested that the field be closed for three weeks for maintenance, repairs, reseeding, painting, etc. Field will be closed September 25 to October 14.
• Irrigation problems behind 3^rd base have been fixed. Pitcher’s mound build-up will be taken care of after the season is over.
• New "turfus" applied to the field on 8-17-07.
• “Lip issue” still being worked on. Please stay 12”inches away from the lip when raking the field.
• Home plate will be redone after the season is over.
• “Out-of-box” issue: 40” is the distance for the line in front of the home plate. If a player steps over the line, he/she is out.
• Another 12 dozen balls were ordered for winter league. Several LHSSL balls have mysteriously disappeared.
• All Star pins have been ordered.
• Shirts ordered for the championship team.
• Uniforms for All Stars have been purchased.
• Practice for All Stars: September 20 – each team will have the field for 1-½ hours.
• Play-Offs: no food but will have food for All Star games.
• Recognition from Don Julio Junior High School – collage and certificate given to the league.
• Thanks to Ray Vasquez for his recycling efforts.

Playoff Schedule – Joe Spinali

• Dates for double elimination tournament: September 10, 12, 14, 17 and championship game on 19. All current rules will apply to the play-offs. All games will be played to 7 innings. No tie games.
• Championship game will be a one game format.
• Wednesday, September 12 – 8 games due to extra team in American league.
• Thanks to Joe and John Bush for organizing the playoffs.

General Discussion – Bob Fernandez & Joe Spinali

Last meeting for Bob & Joe, and they shared parting comments.

Many thanks for all of their hard work and many hours they contributed to the league. We will miss you!

3. Old Business

Paul Krow: Fall Softball Golf Tournament: Tuesday, October 2 – Hills course - $45.00 including lunch. Members can pick their own foursome. Applications are available at the general meeting and at the field.

4. New Business

Brad Schall: Sixth Annual Sun Eagles Fall Classic Tournament on September 8 & 9.

The tournament will have 8 games on Saturday and 7 games on Sunday. Come and enjoy the food, games & win a prize in the drawing.
