LHSSL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

1. Call to Order

Bob Fernandez, President, called the meeting to order at 3:08 pm. Board members present in addition to Bob Fernandez were: Montie Boatwright, Chris Berney, Barry Kendrigan, Joe Spinali, Vince Del Pozzo, and Stan Young, deputy commissioner.

• A total of 72 members attended the meeting, which is 3 above the required quorum. A copy of the attendance sheet is attached to the file copy of the minutes.
• Bob asked for approval of the July minutes, which were approved unanimously.

2. Board Committee Reports

• Nominations for the Board – Thanks to Vince Del Pozzo, Forrest Burkett, and Ed Sorensen for serving on the nomination committee.
• Barry Kendrigan, John Bush, and Bruce Briggs made presentations as candidates for the Board. Motion made and seconded to accept the candidates, which was approved unanimously by the general membership.

Financial Report – Barry Kendrigan

Opening Balance as of 6/30/07 $12,238.29

Income: $ 1,488.93

Expenses: $ 567.46

Balance 7/31/07 $13,159.76

Motion made and seconded to approve the financial report. Unanimously approved.

A copy of the Income/Expense Report and Register Report are included as attachment #2.

Stats – Chris Berney

Fun stuff--

This season we have played 146 games: 3,407 total runs, 23.3 runs per game, and 11.7 runs per team per game. We have 19 earned runs compared to 17 runs last year (178 games).

The league president, Bob, was proud of us!

All Star Games – Vince Del Pozzo

• At the managers meeting it was decided to select All Star players as follows:
• Each manager will select two players from his team for the “A” team. The players will select two players for the “B” team. The third game will be 70’s players.
• Managers will receive a rating form (1 to 10) with various categories & a column for winter league.
• Winter Draft: Wednesday, October 3 & league will start Monday, October 15.
• Summer Draft: February 27 & 28 (if needed) 2008.

Wellness, Banquet – Montie Boatwright

Wellness:

• Sarah Towne’s husband passed away.
• Ron Ashlock’s father passed away.

Our many thoughts and prayers are with Sarah & Ron.

• Will Schaack torn his Achilles, and he will be out for the season.

Best wishes to Will for a speedy recovery.

Banquet:

• The banquet will be Monday, September 24 staring at 5:00 pm. No host bar and dinner served at 6:00 pm.
• Tickets given to recreation managers for distribution to team players. Two tickets per player for $10 each. Please get your money to your manager as soon as possible since we are limited to 460 seats. Deadline: Wednesday, September 5.
• Need an individual to volunteer to do the presentation of the slide show. Please contact Montie Boatwright.

Can Rules, Field Maintenance, Parking Issue, Recycling – J.R. Jackson

• Field maintenance – J.R. has meet with Chris, maintenance, regarding the “lip” (edge of grass & dirt). Maintenance is now using a mower instead of a weed wacker. Watering: J.R. talked to Paula regarding the issues. J.R. and Stan racking holes. Field closed on Tuesday for maintenance.
• Parking: Please park golf carts in designated slots. Do not park at exit areas.
• Recycling: Over $100 collected and recycling going well. Steve Russo will add information regarding recycling in the softball article for the Compass.

“Can” Rules: Board met last week and the issue was discussed. Managers must approach the commissioner or designee before the game to request a can player. A can will be located behind the backstop. Players will put their names in the can and the home team manager will pick name(s) first. Names will be taken out after each game. If a player has played in one game, he cannot play again unless no other names are in the can. If players are needed for the 7:45 am game, the manager(s) needs to call Vince Del Pozzo. Vince will contact players. Managers still need to follow the process of asking the opposing team if their players want to substitute. No can players for the play-offs.

Scorekeepers and Playoffs – Joe Spinali

• Scorekeeping going well and plenty of people volunteering to fill in for absent individuals.

• Dates for double elimination tournament: September 10, 12, 14, 17 and championship game on 19. All current rules will apply to the play-offs. All games will be played to 7 innings. No tie games.

3. Old Business

• Fall Softball Golf Tournament: Tuesday, October 2 – Hills Course - $45.00 including lunch. 8:00 am registration and 9:00 am tee off.

3. New Business

· Sun Eagles are hosting a tournament on September 8 & 9. Refreshments will be available.

· Hot dogs next Wednesday, August 15 and during play-offs. $4 for a full meal (hot dogs with trimmings, chips, soft drinks).

· Board selected Nick Mastrella and Vince Del Pozzo to settle disputes for the play-off games.

· Larry McMaster shared “fun” information about 2001 players.
