LHSSL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

1. Call to Order

Bob Fernandez, President, called the meeting to order at 3:07 pm. Board members present in addition to Bob Fernandez were: Montie Boatwright, Chris Berney, Barry Kendrigan, Joe Spinali, Vince Del Pozzo, and Stan Young, deputy commissioner.

• A total of 43 members attended the meeting, which were 24 members below the required quorum. A copy of the attendance sheet is attached to the file copy of the minutes.
• Bob asked for approval of the June minutes, which were approved unanimously.

2. Board Committee Reports

Wellness, Banquet – Montie Boatwright

Wellness:

• Wellness: Dot Connors, wife of Hal Connors, passed away from a brain aneurysm.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Hal.

• Fraizer Caldwell attended the general meeting after being in the hospital. Glad to see you Fraizer!
• Dave Mowry was taken to the hospital from the weekend Coyote tournament but now he is doing fine. Take care Dave!

Banquet:

• The banquet will be Monday, September 24 staring at 5:00 pm. This year the cost to the league will be $24.50 for an improved menu, and members will be charged $10. Wednesday, September 5 will be the deadline date to purchase tickets for the banquet. Meridian will host 440 members. Don’t delay in purchasing your tickets (2 per player).
• The first date to purchase banquet tickets will be August 7 (our next general meeting). At the conclusion of the meeting tickets will be sold so bring your money! Don’t forget it’s first come first serve.

Financial Report – Barry Kendrigan

Opening Balance as of 5/31/07 $14,433.34

Income: $ 4,623.09

Expenses: $ 6,821.64

Balance 6/30/07 $12,234.79

Motion made and seconded to approve the financial report. Unanimously approved.

A copy of the Income/Expense Report and Register Report are included as attachment #2.

July 4^th Games – Vince Del Pozzo

• First game starts at 8:00 am: Classics 70’s vs. 65 Suneagles; managers of recreation league, board members & selected members vs. City of Lincoln; Coyotes 70’s vs. Coyotes 65’s; Coyote 55’s vs. Coyote 60’s.

Field Usage & Closures, Equipment Drive - Stan Young, Deputy Commissioner

J.R. Jackson is on vacation and Stan Young, deputy commissioner, made the following report:

• Coyote tournament was one of the best thanks to John Wilhelm! Coyote 60’s won the tournament & Coyote 65’s took second place. Congratulations!

• Field closures: July 2, 3, 9, 10 11, 17, 24, 31. Maintenance crew will add more soil conditioner on the warning tracks and foliage treatments continue as well.
• First hot dog day: $140 profit. Another hot dog Wednesday will be on July 25.
• Recycling efforts - $34 profit. The process will continue throughout this year.
• LHSSL children’s, women’s, and men’s T-shirts will be on sale July 4^th. (Children: $5, women: $6, men: $7).
• Stan Young, deputy commissioner, will be in charge of the July 4th tournament.
• Scholarships for Anthony Kolack and Andrew Roberts to be awarded at the July 4th tournament.

Playoff Scheduling – Joe Spinali

• Thanks to Paul Krow for organizing the softball golf tournament. Some members have requested a fall golf tournament.

• Dates for double elimination tournament: September 10, 12, 14, 17 and championship game on 19.

Announcements - Bob Fernandez

• Bob introduced Dick Rooney, historian, for seven years. Dick brought two binders of photos to share with members. Thanks Dick!
• Bob thanked Dennis Ratay for making a CD of over 400 photos of Opening Day. Excellent job Dennis!

3. Old Business

· George Bungarz, M.O.M.: If you need a player before the first game of the day, please call Vince Del Pozzo. Vince will contact people to go to the field and put their names in the “can.” Do not call players directly. Thanks.

• Revised rule: “Can” players can play any position.
• Board nominations: Committee has met and interviewed candidates. At the August 7 general meeting the nominees will be presented and a vote taken by the members.

3. New Business

Next general meeting: Tuesday, August 7 -- 3:00 pm - Heights & Gables Room at Orchard Creek Lodge

3. Open Forum

· A member shared that 15 games were played at the Coyote tournament and watering & dragging of the field was done after every game, which was an improvement over the recreational league. Bob agreed and asked that two to three players of the home team from the next game drag (clockwise) & water the field after every game.

· Question regarding maintenance on the field during closure dates. Stan replied that work would be done on the outfield.

· Comment regarding hole by first base & edging lawn resulting in uneven areas. Stan will bring the issues to the attention of field maintenance.

· Question regarding putting up & taking down the sponsor banners. CAM has requested that we follow this procedure.

· Comment regarding sprinkler behind first base. Stan will meet with maintenance.

· Thanks to Stan Young for all of his work at the weekend Coyote tournament.

· John Wilhelm talked about the Coyote Invitational tournament. All of the visiting teams loved the facility, field, food, music, announcers, etc. and want to return in the future. Thanks to all of the people who helped at the tournament. Thanks to the umpires.

· Thanks to Nick Mastrella who organizes the umpires and for the increase to three umpires per game.
