LHSSL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

Tuesday, April 3

1. Call to Order

Bob Fernandez, President, called the meeting to order at 3:03 pm. Board members present in addition to Bob Fernandez were: Montie Boatwright, J.R. Jackson, Chris Berney, Barry Kendrigan, and Joe Spinali. (Absent: Vince Del Pozzo).

• A total of 54 members attended the meeting, which were 11 members below the required quorum. A copy of the attendance sheet is attached to the file copy of the minutes.
• Bob asked for approval of the March minutes, which were approved unanimously.
• Introduction of new members – Welcome!

2. Board Committee Reports

Rules/Regulations, Playing Rules, ASA – Chris Berney

• Revisions and additions have been made to the Playing Rules and posted on the website (changes in blue):

New Rule 12: Waiver Wire Rules

New Rule 13: Fair Play and Safety Rules

• Revisions and additions have been made to the Rules and Regulations and posted on the website (changes in red):

Rules of conduct: comprehensive listing of definitions, infractions with minimum and maximum penalties for each infraction. This section includes notification and appeals.

• Under the section titled “Appointments” we have added Manager of Managers and Waiver Wire Coordinator.
• The new rules and changes will be posted at the field.
• The league is now registered with ASA.

Financial Report – Barry Kendrigan

Filed final corporate taxes this month.

Opening Balance as of 2/28/07 $11,747.72

Income: $ 4,789.50

Expenses: $ 3,736.75

Balance 3/31/07 $12,800.47

Motion made and seconded to approve the financial report. Unanimously approved.

A copy of the Income/Expense Report and Register Report are included as attachment #2.

Field Improvements, Uniforms, Practice and Game Schedules - J.R. Jackson

• Last week infield was redone with a base of “pro choice” product, red soil conditioner, laser leveling, irrigation replaced, and then rolled for compaction.
• Managers and/or representatives met on March 30 to discuss maintenance of the infield. All teams were represented. Uniforms and hats were distributed at the meeting.
• After the last game visiting team will take down the banners and home team will rake and water the field.
• Initial problems with the infield will occur at the beginning of the season. The field will take time to compact. If problems continue, issues will be addressed by maintenance.
• Uniforms were purchased for five replacement teams and two new teams.
• Practice (4/2, 4, 9, 11) & practice game (4/16, 18, 23, 25) schedules have been given to managers and posted on the website.

• Field closed April 26 & 27 for Opening Day preparations.

• We have purchased 100 shirts for children, wives, and friends to be sold on Opening Day. $6 for children shirts - $7 for adult shirts.

Member shared concerns regarding “sand divots” and safety issues on the infield. He recommended “dragging the field” after practices. J.R. Jackson stated that suggestion was a good idea.

Question regarding taking down the banners after Monday and Wednesday games. Bob will ask Carole McCarthy if we can leave the banners up until after Wednesday games.

Opening Day and Wellness – Montie Boatwright

Wellness:

Gary Jones’ wife has passed away.

Steve Russo is home from the hospital after complications.

Tuck Halsey had knee replacement surgery and is home.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

Opening Day

• Team Pictures – Thursday, April 12 – Starting promptly at 9:00 am. Pictures will be every 10 minutes in team order. Please be at the field 15 minutes before team picture time.

• Things are going well and lots of nice gifts for the drawing. Stan Young and Bruce Briggs have contributed many hours and promise that we will have a great time.
• “Jelly Belly” mascot will hand out candy at the game to the kids. “Red Robin” mascot will hand out certificates in the stands.
• Opening Day starts at 9:00 am and team members should be there at 8:30 am to line up by the right field gate.
• Brochure available listing prizes for drawing. Packet of tickets for $20. A $50 gift certificate from Old Town Pizza will be given to the team selling the most drawing tickets.
• Starstream has committed to attending Opening Day and videotaping the event.

Scoreboard Operators – Joe Spinali

Need more volunteers for scoreboard operations and members asked to sign up. Two to three players needed from each team to be a scoreboard operator.

3. Old Business

• Player Newsletter “Meet Your Fellow Players” – Sarah Towne and Mary Ales wrote the article on Mike and Joann Hilton. Latest article features Nick Mastrella and both articles are on the website.
• Thanks to Tuck Halsey and his support staff for organizing and presenting an excellent clinic.

4. New Business

· Bob asking that all players submit $20 for the drawing tickets.

· Next general meeting: Tuesday, May 1 -- 3:00 pm - Kilaga Springs – Presentation

5. Open Forum

· Question regarding raising dues and eliminating drawing. We will still have the drawing for Opening Day.

· Question regarding the new bats purchased for the teams. Bats will be available for the start of the season.
